BBC covers how Windracers is using drones to transform delivery in Africa

Windracers has featured on the BBC World Service Tech Life podcast, exploring the ways autonomous aircraft could change humanitarian logistics in Africa.
In the interview, David Holden, our Africa Operations Lead, spoke about two exciting developments: establishing a new operational hub in Malawi and our upcoming partnership with Aviation Sans Frontieres.
The Malawi hub will serve as a base to trial a range of humanitarian and development missions, from delivering medical supplies to supporting environmental monitoring and disaster response.
Separately, our partnership with Aviation Sans Frontieres will see Windracers ULTRA aircraft begin delivering medical supplies to some of the most remote communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo later this year.
Reflecting on the challenges of delivering supplies in remote areas, David said: “Sometimes a truck can take days – if it gets through at all. With the drone, we can go direct, point-to-point, and deliver with extreme accuracy”.
Together, these projects mark a major step forward in showing how autonomous technology can support communities across the continent.
Tech Life is the BBC World Service’s flagship technology programme and podcast, reaching audiences around the globe through BBC Sounds, Apple Podcasts and other major platforms.
