Forces News on Windracers ULTRA delivering long-range missions in Ukraine

Windracers has featured in Forces News, exploring how Windracers ULTRA, the dual-use heavy-lift drone, is supporting long-range missions in Ukraine.

During a visit to the Fareham factory, Forces News met with Windracers Founder and Chairman Stephen Wright and Chief Designer Andrew Lock to examine how Windracers ULTRA is delivering significant payloads over long distances, reliably and at scale.

With several dozen already delivered and hundreds expected to be produced over the next two years, the report captures how simplicity and robustness sit at the heart of the platform.

The ability to adapt quickly has been central to ULTRA’s development. Discussing Windracers ongoing work in Ukraine, Founder and Chairman Stephen Wright said: “The pace of development in Ukraine is quite phenomenal.

“We respond to what the Ukrainians are pushing us for, with iterations coming through nearly every week.

“There are not actually many manufacturers making drones of this size, carrying this level of payload, over this distance. At the moment, we are in a category of one.”

The Forces News coverage also reflects a wider shift in how defence and government users are thinking about logistics. Uncrewed aircraft are increasingly being used to reduce risk to people, extend operational reach and sustain activity over large areas where crewed aviation is either impractical or unavailable.

Last month, Windracers announced that it will be exceeding its current capability of 150kg over 1,000km to offer 200kg over a distance of 2,000km in the coming months.
