Windracers featured in AeroTime: ULTRA drone breaks new ground

Windracers has been featured in AeroTime, with a deep-dive into how Windracers ULTRA, the dual-use heavy‑lift drone, is proving its versatility on remote long-range missions.
From capturing climate research in Antarctica to demanding operational missions in Ukraine, AeroTime met with Founder and Chairman Stephen Wright to explore the aircraft’s core strengths: a British designed platform built for simplicity and robustness, the ability to carry significant payloads over long distances, and adaptability to real-world operational demands.
Speaking about Windracers ongoing work in the civil sector, Founder and Chairman Stephen Wright, said: “We’re actually only at the foothills of this technology. I have in my mind a roadmap of what it can do and where it can really transform logistics in both the developing world and the developed world.”
The piece reflects a wider shift in logistics thinking, as uncrewed aircraft are increasingly deployed to reduce risk, extend operational reach, and support operations in areas where crewed aviation is impractical.
Earlier this year, the HITRANS led Sustainable Aviation Test Environment programme, of which Windracers is a partner, secured ongoing support from UK Research and Innovation to develop new aviation approaches that improve connectivity for remote and island communities, including Orkney and Shetland.
