Windracers features in Janes on advancing ULTRA capabilities in Ukraine

Windracers has featured in Janes, exploring how Windracers ULTRA, our dual-use heavy-lift drone, is supporting defence operations and evolving to meet the growing demands of autonomous aircraft.

In the interview, CEO Simon Muderack and Chief Flight Operations Officer Rob Datson reveal how Windracers ULTRA, a British sovereign capability, will be able to deliver a 200kg payload over a distance of up to 2000km in coming months.

From frontline resupply missions in Ukraine to developments extending range and payload, the report highlights how Windracers ULTRA is trusted in real-world environments, with dozens of units delivered and hundreds more planned over the next two years.

Speaking exclusively to Janes, Simon explained that the ULTRA platform was designed for resilience and reliability: “The philosophy was to build ‘the Jeep of the skies’ or a ‘Toyota Hilux-type platform’, very rugged, very robust, deliberately made from aluminium.”

Simon continued: “I’ve seen the platform crash into a snowbank and bump into the side of a hangar. I’ve seen someone take a hammer and actually knock out some bumps in the platform and it still took off and flew successfully.”

Earlier this month, the UK Government and NATO recognised Windracers as a trusted drone supplier as part of a major initiative that has delivered over 85,000 drones to Ukraine and invested £600 million to strengthen the UK’s defence industry.
