Another Royal Mail First: Company trials delivering 100% of remote community’s mail by lower emission drone

This week, Royal Mail has started a trial of scheduled, autonomous flights for two weeks between Kirkwall and North Ronaldsay (both in the Orkney Islands) with Windracers Ltd to help better connect remote island communities.

Royal Mail delivers two UK firsts with Autonomous drone parcel deliveries to the Scilly Isles alongside inter-island drone deliveries of test kits

Royal Mail and partners have delivered two more UK firsts. As part of a specialist consortium, Royal Mail becomes the first UK parcel carrier to deliver mail to a UK island in a 70 mile out-of-sight, autonomous flight to the Scilly Isles.

Windracers has been selected by the UK Government to accelerate its UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) autonomous SWARM technologies.

Windracers ULTRA UVA drone to be used to transport medical supplies from mainland Cornwall to the Isles of Scilly in 30 minutes to support the response to COVID-19.

The trial, the first of its kind in Cornwall, is a key part of the Future Flight Challenge (FFC) project funded by the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.
